Thirty Three Years with Jesus Christ
Now that Christmas has gone by and Easter is on the way, there is plenty of time to think about what Jesus Christ did in the 33 years between His birth and death. When He was born as a baby on Christmas morning, it was the beginning of His plan to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross of Calvary. The four gospels tell us about His last three years of preparation for the cross.
Part of His plan included His willingness to face the “life’s experiences” of His time without sinning, in order to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross of Calvary. However, except for one event at about age 12, the Bible is silent about His life in between His birth and His 3 year ministry.
He did grow up with His siblings and had to cope with those inter-related situations, along with submitting to parental discipline. He did endure the educational system of His time, along with the challenges of “getting along” with His peers. As He got older, and passed His teen-age years, He did get a job and learn what it’s like to work for a living and get along with His coworkers. He also interacted with people regarding the social activities that came His way. He faced the temptations and immoralities of His time, just like we do. He lived all these years without sinning.
How about us? We can hardly get through one day at a time without violating more than one of the ten commandments in Exodus 20: 1-17.
Christ paid the penalty for our sins. In John 3:16 God tells us how much He loves us and John 14: 6 makes it “crystal clear” that there is “only one way” to be with Him in Heaven. We must accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior ... not by just expressing a few words in a prayer… but by believing in Him from the very depths of our hearts and to follow Him in obedience.
If we take our last breath between now and Easter, do we know without a doubt that we will be with Him for eternity? May God bless you as you meditate on your status and relationship with God.
